Trip Information
Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport for approximately 40 JOD (around $56 USD). The Jordan Pass (starting at 70 JOD) includes visa fees plus entry to Petra and 40+ attractions - highly recommended! Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your travel date.
No vaccinations are required for Jordan, but Hepatitis A and Typhoid are recommended. Bring any prescription medications you need. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is strongly recommended. The Dead Sea is 430m below sea level - those with heart conditions should consult their doctor. Stay hydrated in the desert climate.
Jordan has a Mediterranean climate. Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) offer ideal temperatures of 20-25°C. Summer (June-August) can reach 35-40°C - early morning activities recommended. Winter (December-February) is mild but can be cold at night, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum. Desert temperatures drop significantly after sunset.
The Jordanian Dinar (JOD) is the local currency. 1 JOD ≈ $1.41 USD. ATMs are widely available in cities. Credit cards accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. Bring cash for souvenirs, tips, and smaller establishments. Tipping is customary: 10% at restaurants, 2-3 JOD per day for guides, 1-2 JOD for drivers.
